I have been teaching in Alief for a number of years. I am lucky to have a job, but the budget cuts have affected my personal life. We did not get a raise or pay step and insurance went up. Each paycheck for the 2011-2012 school year was $75.00 less. I had to get a second job as all the cost of living are increasing. We still are getting no raise and I am close to being homeless come September. I have spent so much money on classroom supplies. It is sad when lunch prices go up and I give my students lunch money. My school is stingy about basic supplies so I have to always buy more throughout the year.
